Cosmetics

We use the word Cosmetics instead of "make up" intentionally as part of making a point. The word comes to us from the Greek meaning "technique of dress and ornament" with emphasis on "order" and "ornament". You took what you were given and adourned yourself. The two words "make up" ( shortened to "makeup" ) imply that there is some deficit in the wearer's physical form which must be overcome or corrected. Hooey we say. All this does is lead to countless face painting videos where otherwise reasonable young women spend inordinate amounts of time attempting to make themselves look like some universally accepted norm. Less is more sister.
