The modern soda-lime-silica glass with small percentages of magnesia and alumina is what most people interact with today. The same mixture is also suitable for window manufacture. Where improved resistance to heat is desired (cookware), the inclusion of boron oxide in favor of soda increases the end product's dimensional stability which makes it less subject to stresses due to thermal expansion.
